This is a good version of the Arabian Nights.While Sir Richard Burton's original sixteen volume translation is the definitive version, but the inclusion of a thousand breaks where Sherazade perceives the breaking of day make it difficult reading. Too, the copious footnotes are so interesting they break the flow of the stories.
Amazon sells another version, The Book of The Thousand Nights and a Night: A Plain and Literal, Illustrated Translation of the Arabian Nights Entertainments, which is Burton's translation with much extraneous material removed.
Before you buy, read a little of each version to see if it suits you taste.

I like it just fine.
With so many wonderful stories in this volume, it's no wonder this has been a classic for so many years.
It was great to read the original versions of these stories. Most of us only know the hollywood or Disney versions. It can be difficult to follow due to its age and the language used, however, it is pure and delightful entertainment that seems to take you back in time.
After 2 months, product still not delivered. Got refund, but would not order again from this supplier.
Considering the cultural significance of this book, the excessive violence and graphic sexual detail can be excused for the sake of historical value. Nevertheless, I don't know that I would recommend this book to others. It rambles on quite a bit and can be hard to follow. However, it did help me get a feel for this culture and I appreciated many aspects of the characters portrayed.

There are so many versions of the Thousand Nights / Arabian Nights tales floating around on the internet. This particular one is apparently translated by John Payne, and it's free, but I don't really think it's the best version available.
To start with, the formatting seems a little "off" there are hard line breaks scattered throughout the poems that look really ugly if the text isn't zoomed fully out. Then there are the [FN#1] notes littered throughout the text -- the footnotes don't seem to be hyperlinked at the time of this review, which means that you have to manually skip back to the end of the book to see what the footnote says. This is a fairly cumbersome process, and a hyperlink would have been much nicer to have available.
The language of this translation is also very dated; there's a lot of "forsooth"s and "thy"s littering the pages. I feel that some of the meaning is lost in the translation, and I'd recommend the (more expensive) Mathers collection over this one, but that's a personal preference. The Mathers collection can be found here; so I'd recommend downloading a sample from this and that one and making up your mind on which language you prefer.

This is one of the most famous books of literature in human history and a monument to Arab/Islamic culture. We all know the basis story - Sherherazad - and the stories of Aladin; and Sinbad; and the Roc and the genie and the....
But there are many surprises the cities that we read about in the news papers; the number of stories; etc.
This is the first volume of a large work and well translated.
